About This Site

Why this exists

When I started planning my first trip to Pinehurst, I had a lot of questions. Which courses should we play? Do I need to stay at the resort? How do caddies work? What's the realistic cost? What should we do between rounds?

The answers were scattered across resort website pages, forums or reddit threads, and one-off blog posts. I also asked my own questions online and got conflicting or no-longer-true responses. There was no single, independent resource that I could find which laid it all out honestly. So after my most recent trip, I built one.

I still see the same questions come up online all the time — people trying to piece together a plan from fragments. This site is my attempt to save them the legwork and help them have an incredible trip to the Pinehurst area.

Who I am

I've been playing golf for about 30 years. Before kids I played to about a 1 handicap; these days I'm more of a 5. I live about 3.5 hours from Pinehurst but only took my first trip there in 2024.

I'm not affiliated with Pinehurst Resort, any course, or any tourism board. Nobody is paying me to write this. The opinions are mine, and I'll tell you when something is based on research rather than firsthand experience.

What I've played

I have firsthand experience on these courses and write about them in first person:

  • Pinehurst No. 2
  • Pinehurst No. 3
  • Pinehurst No. 5
  • The Cradle
  • Southern Pines Golf Club
  • Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club
  • Tobacco Road Golf Club

Everything else on the site is clearly labeled as research-based — sourced from rankings, reviews, and conversations with golfers who've played them. I'll keep updating as I play more courses.
